This presentation will discuss how detrimental racism is in our society as a whole and more specifically within a classroom/learning environment. We will discuss the psychological, emotional, and physical toll racism has on people of color, particularly students who are pursuing an education at predominately white schools with mostly white professors. Participants will be encouraged and supported in recognizing their own biases and stereotypical views toward people of color. We will also provide example of how these biases/stereotypes play out in the classroom and will provide tools and suggestions for how professors can make changes in their teaching style to become more inclusive and respectful of cultural/racial differences.

Sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement. Questions? Contact Danielle Sims, Director of ODICE at danielle.sims@kctcs.edu
