Update, Wed. Sept. 19th: event is at capacity, but video will be recorded. See below for more info. A lunchtime event from the NYC Chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network in collaboration with Sludge, an investigative journalism project on money in politics - at Civic Hall, in Manhattan's Flatiron neighborhood.

Lunch will be provided free for RSVP'd attendees, courtesy of the Scholars Strategy Network.

Lessie Branch will be speaking about African Americans and political contributions. She is a Racial Policy Scholar, Fulbright Specialist, Senior Fellow at the DuBois Bunche Center for Public Policy and Associate Dean for the School for Business at Metropolitan College of New York. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Urban Studies Department at Queens College and the Political Science and Human Rights Department at Marymount Manhattan College.

Michael G. Miller will discuss his previous research on money in politics and new research as it relates to the 2018 election. He is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Barnard College. Professor Miller's work applies quantitative methods to questions in American elections and political behavior. His research is particularly focused on four broad themes: How people respond to changes in rules governing elections (particularly campaign finance), how the behavior of elites differs from the mass public, how gender drives political behavior, and the effects of political scandal.

The lunch event will be hosted Dr. Alex Kotch, investigative journalist with Sludge and money-in-politics expert. Alex started out with the Institute for Southern Studies (N.C.), freelanced in NYC with reporting in VICE.com, The Nation, and Exposed by CMD. He was most recently was part of the award-winning investigative team at International Business Times.
