Description

Qur'anic Arabic for Native and Non-Native Speakers

"Every sufi is a poet, and to be a poet one must be erudite in grammar. If one does not understand the structure of grammar, one will not understand the structure of God's way, as Ibn al-Arabi would have it." - Mohammed Sharafuddin

This is a crash course aimed at emphasizing the principal skills of Classical Arabic through texts selected from the Qur'an and ancient Arabic poetry. We begin with simple words and phrases and then move on to drill on longer sentences and texts. No previous knowledge of Arabic is necessary. My idea in this course is to apply the old traditional method of using the so-called Qur'anic Arabic to enhance language skills conducive to appreciating classical Arabic as used in the Qur'an and classical poetry.

This series of five 2-hour workshops with Mohammed Sharafuddin, PhD will be offered on the following dates in September & October. Eventbrite only allows us to show the first date, so the rest of the dates and times are listed here for your convenience. Each session builds on the one before, so please try to get to them all.

We are asking $20 for each session. Our presenter would like to donate any other session fees to the Light Upon Light Sufi Center, which is very much appreciated!
