QuinceYALEa: Yale's Very Own Quinceañera
Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (EST)
New Haven, CT
A quinceañera is a staple celebration in the Latino community celebrating the fifteenth birthday of a Latina that signifies her transition into womanhood. La Casa Cultural will be recreating one to share with the Yale community an aspect of the Latino culture. We are excted to welcome faculty, undergrads, grad students, and all those who make our university so diverse. Complete with a quinceañera herself, and a court of damas and chambelanes, the celebration filled with dancing, music, and food will be an event we would love for you to attend!
Erica Yurvati ES ’15 has been selected as the Quinceañera for our QuinceYALEa celebration this February. Erica was chosen not only because she’s been a wonderful contributing member of the Latino community at Yale, but because she didn’t have a quinceañera herself. Erica’s late father battled leukemia for most of her life and was particularly sick around the time of her 15th birthday. As such, a quinceañera was not in the cards for her in 2007, but it is now! La Casa feels incredibly honored to be able to celebrate her and her family with this event. We hope you’ll join us in the celebration!
QuinceYALEa will start at 6PM in the Ezra Stiles Dining Hall. Reserve your free ticket today; one is required to attend! For dinner, guests will be asked to use their dinner meal swipe for the evening. If you are not on the meal plan, please come prepared to pay at the door.
An after party will follow at La Casa (301 Crown St.) to end the celebratory night. You don't want to miss out!
