Description

Janet Fogg is a well known Portland quilt artist and teacher who creates with skill and imagination. She strives to show creativity in her original art quilts and shares her extensive experience and know how in her quilt making workshops.

In this workshop choose a quilt project from the Janet Fogg collection of contemporary quilt designs. Discover how the curves and contours of animals, butterflies or flowers combine with traditional block or mosaic piecing to create unexpected visual interest. Machine piecing teams up with a new method of turned edge applique to construct these quilts. Students will work section by section from full-scale pattern sheets and coordinating fabric kit.

The purchase of a pattern kit is required. Kits range in price from $75 to $95 and include a pattern and all fabric needed to make the chosen quilt top and matching binding. Kits may be ordered and shipped in advance of workshop from Janet Fogg’s Online Store or students may choose and purchase from the selection of designs available at the time of the class. Student should bring:

  • Sewing machine and accessories, including bobbins
  • Pattern kit of your choice from the Janet Fogg collection. Cost of kit $75 - $95. To order go to www.janetfoggquilts.com
  • Small or midsize cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter
  • Small ruler 1” x 6”
  • 11” x 17” piece of foamcore board (A smooth work surface to draw on or pin into)
  • Fine Glass head pins
  • Ultra Fine Point Sharpie Pens Black and one or two light colors
  • 2-3 acid free white glue sticks (Be sure they are fresh)
  • Scissors for cutting fabric and paper
  • Small sharp scissors for clipping fabric
  • Beveled seam roller or other finger pressing tool (optional)
  • Threads to match chosen design for piecing and applique
  • Applique needles
  • Thimble
  • Seam ripper and Tweezers (optional)
  • Zip lock bags (gallon size to stay organized)
  • Template plastic and adhesive spray if you are doing Tessie or Drucilla
  • Sack lunch

Janet Fogg is a quilt artist and teacher from the Portland, Oregon area. With an equal emphasis on traditional and contemporary designs, her award winning quilts combine the two genres into a unique and captivating body of work. She has traveled throughout the United States sharing her quilting stories and techniques. Janet has been the recipient of many awards in the competitive quilt arena but treasures most her nine Viewer's Choice ribbons.
