Think you’re a good judge of vocal talent? Here’s an opportunity to test your ears against a few hundred fellow listeners while enjoying operatic arias sung by the best of southern Arizona’s voice students, and a tasty wine and hors d'oeuvres reception. Listen to the arias from past Quest competitions.
The event is the fourteenth annual Quest for the Best vocal competition and reception, to be held at Holsclaw Hall, in the Music Building on the UA campus, Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.
UA voice students will vie for cash prizes, in separate graduate and undergraduate categories. The vote of the audience, by written ballot, will determine the winners. While ballots are counted, the Opera Guild of Southern Arizona hosts a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception where the audience can chat with the singers, faculty, and fellow opera lovers.
To enter the competition students must be nominated by their professors. Last year, 16 students shared almost $9000 in prizes. The event is presented to the community by the the Opera Guild of Southern Arizona, in cooperation with the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music.
