Event description
A full day of fun, immersive workshops, community building, and learning to make a serious impact on this election.

About this Event

YOU CAN impact this election.

YOU CAN turn your fear into hope.

YOU CAN be powerful in community.

WE WILL SHOW YOU HOW.

2020 is a critical election year, and it’s time to get ready to make a difference! At this QUEERiCULUM, the category is grassroots activism and we’re dedicating this fun, immersive, 1-day training to relevant skills and confidence-building in our unique and joyful way. Discover how to make (and be) the change you wish to see in the world, while connecting and lunching with your passionate community.

Nobody wants another impeachment. It’s easy to feel hopeless - like you have zero impact in politics when there are actually many opportunities to plug in to very effective efforts.

Remember: Every action you take makes a difference.

Now is the time. In-person connection will be the key to winning the 2020 elections. It may seem intimidating at first, but with experience it can quickly become fun and the personal rewards are well worth it. We don’t argue with others who disagree with us, we kindly thank them and move on to undecided voters and supporters because our time and energy is precious. Come learn how to to do it!

You’ll Learn How To:

  • Make conversations with new people fun, easy, and rewarding through activism
  • Impact election results in other states (from the comfort of the Bay)
  • Motivate undecided voters to make an informed choice
  • Manage emotional and time resources

Activism also offers opportunities to:

  • Impact the election
  • Meet like-minded people
  • Sharpen your interpersonal skills
  • Feel purpose, meaning, impact, and belonging.
  • Travel to exotic destinations in Nevada or the midwest

QUEERiCULUM 2020 will include:

  • A keynote speech by Cleve Jones
  • The chance to connect, network, and share lunch with like-minded people
  • Workshops

Subjects include effective

  • Phone/text banking - use your phone to swing elections. Please bring a fully charged laptop/tablet, cell phone, and chargers. A headset with a microphone will make your calls easier. We may have limited loaners available.
  • Voter registration - empower others to vote.
  • Door-to-door canvassing - talking to people face-to-face has the most impact.
  • “Motivational Interviewing” - persuasion through inquiry.

Whether you're knocking on someone’s door or calling them on the phone, the currency of organizing is positive human interaction. The way we galvanize our voters, or bring others to our side, is by having a good conversation, making a good connection. When we do that, we are literally beating back hatred with love, and beating back apathy with empathy.

You no doubt have friends who are angry and anxious about the state of the world. Let them know how easy and fun it is to take action. Let them know how good it feels to connect with people and make a difference.Join us as we become fabulously empowered change-makers in troubled times and change your channel from dread to hope!
