Event description

Description

Calling all girls* aged 7 - 14. Are you interested in coding, tech, and like making things? Whether you are a total beginner or a code ninja, this event is for you! Inspired by the historic surroundings of what was once the world's largest woollen mill, come join us for the Queens of Industry STEAM** Hack and:

  • Discover the first computer software (punch cards), and the machines they ran on, before creating your own punchcard and turning it into a work of art on Minecraft with a Patterncraft workshop hosted by Gemma May Latham.

  • Use your imagination and creativity to problem solve a real-world challenge set by Leeds Museums and Galleries or Leeds Libraries. All equipment including Micro:Bits, Raspberry Pi computers and peripherals will be provided on the day.

Come along as a group, or come solo and join a group on the day. Hacks are friendly events that are perfect for meeting new people and trying new things.

Supported by mentors from local Leeds based digital businesses, you can learn something new, develop skills and have a whole lot of fun doing it. You'll even leave with a bag of swag to remember your afternoon by!

Please note: Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult

Please note: The £3 fee to attend this hack includes child entry to the Industrial Museum at Armley Mills.

*If you self-identify as a girl, you are welcome to join this hack.
