Event description

Description

Join Smiling Hogshead Ranch & Newtown Creek Alliance and Riverkeeper for a cleanup, tree planting, plant identification & geolocation (using iNaturalist) of Newtown Creek: Dutch Kills on Saturday, May 5, 2018 for the 7th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries.

Volunteers will meet at the Borden Avenue Bridge (Borden Avenue over, Newtown Rd, Long Island City, NY 11101) where street parking will be available nearby. The cleanup will take place between the FedEx parking lot fence and the waterfront. If you would like to help identify plant species, please download the iNaturallist app onto your phone and bring your phone fully charged. We ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots, clothing that they can get dirty, and to bring a hat, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and snacks.

Questions? Contact Riverkeeper at sweep@riverkeeper.org or site leader Gil Lopez at Glopezsez@gmail.com.

Sweep would not be possible without the support of Riverkeeper volunteers and members. Magnify your impact at Sweep by joining our Sweep Crowdrise campaign! When you build your own Crowdrise team or join an existing one, you demonstrate your commitment to a trash-free Hudson and inspire your network to support Riverkeeper's work to protect the Hudson River and its tributaries. You and your Crowdrise supporters will become Riverkeeper members, and the more members we have standing with us, the more we can accomplish together.
