Qualification Summary

The aim of the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3) is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to work as a First Responder. It is ideal for those who wish to work within the Event Medical or Close Protection Sectors, or as a stepping stone to working within the private medical world in roles such as Patient Transport. It replaces the Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care.

Who Should Take This Qualification ?

You should take this qualification if you are working (or plan to work) within the private medical sector. It is ideal for those working within the event environment, but can also be suitable for those looking for Patient Transport work or COVID swabbing (with additional training).
The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3) is also recognised by the HSE as meeting the requirements for First Aid at Work.

Prerequisites

While there are no formal prerequisites for the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3), learners will ideally have previous experience or training in First Aid.
Learners will be expected to complete approximately 14hours of pre-course reading on topics such as:

  • Principles of communication
  • Consent and capacity
  • Information governance
  • Patient assessment (primary and secondary surveys)
  • Health and safety in their environment
  • Duty of care, scope of practice and accountability

Learners will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3).
Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3), but there will be a multiple choice papers over the duration of the course. Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.

Qualification Structure

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3) has three mandatory components that learners are required to complete.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025 (RQF) (FREC3) usually takes five days to complete. This course is split over two weeks, running on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th and 10th of Feb 2026.

Our Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care 2025(RQF) (FREC3) is currently scheduled to be held in the Cannock, Staffordshire area. We anticipate this to be Pye Green Community Centre as listed above, but confirmation of the venue will be sent with full joining instructions approximately 1 to 2 weeks before the course start date.

The Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) 2025 FREC 3 now features optional extended skill components covering Supraglottic Airway Devices, Inhaled Analgesia (Nitrous Oxide), Inhaled Analgesia (Penthrox), Administration of Naloxone, and Blood Glucose Measurement.

Completion of these extended skills are subject to clinical governance authorisation and will be clearly stipulated on the certificate.

These Extended Skills are not routinely covered on our courses. Authorisation must be provided by a learners employer that these extended skills can be taught and will be included within their scope of practice once qualified. This authorisation can only be provided by a registered Health Care Professional (HCPC, GMC or NMC), Responsible Person or Registered Manager with the CQC, or a statutory emergency services and ambulance service Education Manager.
