Description

Are you interested in learning more about data science? You know it’s necessary to be a strong programmer, but you don’t know how to get started. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to program in Python; after completing the course, you’ll be better prepared to learn data science.

This workshop is for analysts, product managers, statisticians, business managers and anyone else who wants to build their Python skills for data science.

What You’ll Learn / Takeaway:
Whether you’ve programmed in other languages or Python is your first, this class will teach you the nuances of Python and how to use them to your advantage in your data science projects. Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Environment Setup
  • Data Scientist Workflow
  • Ins and Outs of Coding Pythonically
  • Object-Oriented Programming
  • Introduction to Data Science Libraries including Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, Sklearn

Who Should Take this Class?
For those of you interested in learning to program in Python, so you may be better prepared for self-study in data science, this course will help you get up to speed.

Prerequisites:
A desire to learn.

Note: Previous programming experience can be helpful but is not necessary.

Setup (please have this in advance):

• Bring your laptop and power cable - strong preference for macs or linux.**
• Install Anaconda with Python version 3.7 on your machine: http://docs.continuum.io/anaconda/install.html
• Install a text editor: https://code.visualstudio.com/
• If you have trouble with installation, we will assist on the first day.

**Instructors may not have the expertise to assist with troubleshooting on windows machines, and machines that do not use the above-mentioned computer specs.

Weekly Agenda:

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30-9:30 pm

  • Week 1: 3/19 & 3/21:
    • First class: Introduction to git, Github, Unix, Downloading software (Anaconda, git, Atom)
    • Second class: Variable assignment, Variable declaration, Loops, Control flow, Logic
  • Week 2: 3/26 & 3/28:
    • First class: Tuples, Dictionaries, and Sets
    • Second Class: Introduction to Python data structures, Python Libraries, lists, strings
  • Week 3: 4/2 & 4/4:
    • First Class: Lab 1: Function and Scope
    • Second class: File I/O, Lab: Game Creation
  • Week 4: 4/9 & 4/11:
    • First Class: Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
    • Second class: OOP Continued
  • Week 5: 4/16 & 4/18:
    • First Class: Introduction to Pandas, Dataframes
    • Second class: DataFrame operations, Numpy
  • Week 6: 4/23 & 4/25:
    • First Class: Introduction to Statistical Modeling
    • Second: Lab 2 - OOP


REFUND POLICY

A student who cancels within 7 days of signing the enrollment agreement but before instruction begins receives all monies returned with the exception of the non-refundable registration fee. Thereafter, a student will be liable for:

• The non-refundable registration fee ($100.00) plus,

• Tuition liability as of the student’s last date of physical attendance. Tuition liability is determined by the percentage of the program offered to the student.

Refund Schedule
If termination occurs, the school may keep:
Within 7 days of signing enrollment agreement, but before 1st Week: 0%
0-15% of the Program: 0%
16-30% of the Program: 25%
31-45% of the Program: 50%
46-60% of the Program: 75%
After 60% of the Program: 100%
