Python for Threat Intelligence

Delivery method: Classroom

Python has long been one of the de facto scripting languages to go to for Threat Intelligence tasks. The class guides a student through learning about and then writing with Python modules to automate otherwise mundane tasks. The course will focus on the following tasks through several labs:

  • Query DNS
  • Work with, parse and process files
  • Scrape websites
  • Access, save and read from databases (Mongo, SQL)
  • Use SDKs to access Threat communities

Students will be provided with a program stub for each lab and the guided to create a project to meet the lab objectives.

Note: Each hour of this course follows a pattern of 5-minute instructor discussion, 10-minute classroom discussion and 45-minute lab work.

  • Laptop required
  • Requires basic knowledge of computers, technology and command line interface (CLI)
    • o Assume students can open and operate browsers, find and use the command line, execute scripts and open programs
    • Requires knowledge of Linux
    • Requires basic knowledge of python
    • Understanding of virtual machines (VM) and how to use one.
      • o Assume students understand how to import and power on a VM
