Event description

Description

Decorating and dying Easter eggs with the wax resist method or Pysanki as it is called in Slavic cultures, is a tradition in Eastern Europe which is thousands of years old.

In this workshop we will discuss the use of natural dyes and how they are used.

Then we will take real chicken and duck eggs and create our own Pysanki eggs. We use Kistkas, the traditional tools for the wax resistant method. We will learn about different symbols and patterns which have been first used during Pagan times and how the meaning of the symbols changed after Slavic cultures changed to Christianity.

Martina Moore will be leading this workshop with thanks to a NC Arts Council Grassroots grant!
