About this event
People Who Usually Don't Lecture: A Storied Harvest, will feature 8 speakers from diverse backgrounds telling stories about their lives as part of an international effort to elevate stories of everyday people in our communities.
The Jewish holiday of Sukkot is a harvest holiday when we welcome guests of all walks of life into our portable homes. We believe that Sukkot is the perfect season to celebrate with stories and storytellers who have come to Chicago from across the globe.
We invite you into our tent with a sense of curiosity as each of our featured guests shares a story from their life.
We welcome you to come early to explore the Sukkat Rimon built by Could Be Architecture.
The event will be held indoors in Lederer Hall at Emanuel Congregation. The venue is accessible a short walk from the Thorndale Red Line station and easy to access from buses that run on Broadway and Sheridan. Limited parking available.

John Harris was born and raised outside Salisbury, about 80 miles southwest of London. A love of theatre and music came at an early age. John performed in a variety of productions specializing in physical theatre in and around Salisbury, including notable sites like Salisbury Cathedral and the prehistoric settlement of Old Sarum. He even learned how to play the didgeridoo for a role! John moved to London to study theatre at Middlesex University where he met his American wife during her study abroad program. While no longer performing, he still loves seeing theatre and traveling the world. John has held several jobs in sales over the years, using his English charm to sell everything from fancy soaps, foreign currency and self storage to funerals and cemeteries. Contrary to his accent, John has lived in Chicago for 16 years and is a dual citizen.
