Families are children’s first teachers. How cool would it be if we shared social-emotional tips and tools with caregivers? This session is your chance to do just that! You will receive information on how to create a variety of Family Connection Backpacks and even leave with make-and-take items to fill those backpacks. And we will raffle off a set of backpacks to get some lucky winners started. Join in the fun of bridging connections from school to home.

Share PWPBS Winter/Spring 2017 Training Series

Event Details

A FREE workshop series funded by the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.

Please select ALL sessions you want to attend and then you will be prompted to complete registration demographic form.

Sessions focus on effective strategies that promote social-emotional development and address challenging behavior in young children birth to five years old through implementation of the Pyramid Model. Topics are geared for teachers, teaching assistants, early childhood coaches, administrators, therapists, and mental health providers.



 Transitions Don’t Have to Be Tricky: Tips for Terrific Transitions

Without transition tips and tricks, the time it takes to get children from one activity to another can feel like a ticking time bomb. In this session, we will share a packet of "magic" filled with transition strategies that will prevent challenging behavior and help kids M-O-V-E from one activity to the next. Participants will make-and-take tools to use, receive visual strategies and there will even be a fun raffle giveaways.

Be a CSI: Classroom Solutions Initiator. Helping Young Children Problem Solve

When children have a problem, they do one of three things: withdraw, become aggressive, or they solve that problem through an acceptable solution.   The goal of this make-and-take workshop is to supply participants with the child friendly tools, like puppets and books that you will take home. Visual supports will also be given to guide young children on how to learn to navigate through the steps of problem solving all the ways to a solution.

August 1, 2017 (1:00-4:00 pm) OR August 3, 2017 (4:30-7:30 pm)

 


Think It; Script It; Teach It! Technology Tips for Classroom Supports/Strategies

Participants will learn how to create fun interactive visuals supports, flannel board pieces, and scripted stories to teach toddlers and preschoolers social-emotional skills and how to follow directions. Participants are asked to bring a laptop to the training. We encourage participants to have Microsoft Office on their computer. Presenters will bring extra laptops for participants to use in groups of three. Make-and-take materials will also be provided. There is limited space. Sign up early.

Carry Skills Home with Family Backpacks

Book Nooks Galore for 2s, 3s, and 4s!

Love to incorporate children’s books into your lessons?  Join us and learn how to use children’s literature to teach social-emotional skills.  This round of book nooks will include various friendship skills, emotions, and more.  We will share many book nook lesson plans and fun activities that will make stories come to life.  There will be door prizes, minimal “talk” and lots of “make-and-take”.  Bring a bag; you will take home lots of goodies.

What can I bring into the event?

All participants must bring: water-based markers, scissors, pen/pencil, glue, and 2 manila folders in order to complete make-and-take.

Some sessions require participants to bring additional craft items for make-and-takes. Registrants will receive an email listing what items to bring.
