About the Memorial

Turning Point is raising funds to build a national memorial to honor the millions of suffragists who fought more than seven decades to win the vote for women – a campaign of which most Americans know little or nothing including incidents of arrests, jail, death and torture!  The memorial will ensure that the unknown suffrage story is elevated to its proper place in history and will educate present and future generations on the need for eternal vigilance for equal rights.  The suffragists engineered the greatest expansion of democracy in a single day that the world had ever seen with the stroke of a pen – help us to expose the “best kept secret in American history.”

Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association

The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association (TPSMA) is a 501(c)(3), Virginia corporation.  TPSMA will illuminate a critical part of history about American women that has been largely untold through construction of a national suffragist memorial, establishment of the Turning Point Institute and development of a Constitution Trail.  The memorial will reflect the strength of over five million women and the significance of their 72-year fight to win the vote. In partnership with NOVA Parks, the memorial will be located within Occoquan Regional Park, Fairfax County, Virginia, part of the historic prison grounds where scores of suffragists who picketed the White House in 1917 were inhumanely imprisoned, beaten and brutalized.
