‘Putting the Evidence Back into Running Injury Management'
8 CPD HOURS - accredited by the Sports Therapy Association
Sports Therapists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Personal Trainers & Coaches who currently help (or plan to help) runners manage & prevent running related injury.
Research estimates the incidence of running related injury as somewhere between 19.4% and 79.3% (depending on the source), with figures remaining constant since the 1980’s. Despite what runners read & hear everyday, the mechanism behind many running related injuries still remains a mystery. Attempts to link running biomechanics with injury often end up in contradiction, creating a lot of confusion for both therapists and runners.
'Putting the Evidence back into Running Injury Management' is a workshop designed to help therapists sort through the myths and misconceptions that currently fill the world of running injury management & prevention. By taking a detailed look at the evidence and examining the impact of modern concepts from modern neuroscience, attendees will be presented with the tools to challenge many of the traditional approaches & explanations still used by health care professionals today and replace them with a more critical, self evaluated, evidence based approach.
Attendees will leave with:
• An introduction to current conceptual models of cognitive neuroscience.
• An understanding of the implications on our traditional approach to rehabilitation & performance.
• Modern methods of assessing & treating runners, incorporating a biopsychosocial approach.
• An extensive tool-kit of run-specific exercises & drills, with an understanding of which, when, why & how.
• An introduction to the use of gait analysis & gait retraining.
