About this Event

On Thursday, September 24, 2020, our community will host the 6th Annual Summit on Children. This community-driven, now all virtual, event was created to increase public/private business awareness, engagement and investment in early childhood programs that yield better outcomes for children and families, and ultimately the future of Leon County.

Over the course of five years, nearly 4,500 community members, including business owners, pediatricians, law enforcement, attorneys, judges, mental health providers, university faculty, district school administrators, childcare providers, child advocates, and the faith-based community have participated in Summit related events, learning from national and regional experts on best practices related to childhood success.

Our agenda includes keynote presentations and remarks by Rep. Vance Aloupis, CEO, Children’s Movement of Florida; Willie Simmons, Head Coach, FAMU; Marcus West, MPH, CSP, Florida Department of Health, Leon County; Jack Levine, Founder, 4Generations Institute; and Rep. Loranne Ausley, Chair, South City Foundation.

We are also featuring two unique panels to explore the business case for early childhood investment and the role of government in children's services. Our guests for these two panels include Michael Williams, Director, Florida Prosperity Initiative, Florida Chamber Foundation; Monesia Brown, Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations, Walmart; Sue Dick, President/CEO, Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce; Eddie Gonzalez-Loumiet, CEO, Ruvos; Virginia C. Dailey, Partner, Panza Maurer & Maynard; Mayor John Dailey, City of Tallahassee; Superintendent Rocky Hanna, Leon County Schools; Sheriff Walt McNeil, Leon County Sheriff’s Office; and Commissioner Rick Minor, Leon County;

Finally, we are excited to welcome presentations from outside of our community to help inspire future action and support for children. These include Teresa Bishop, Executive Director, Roundtable of St. Lucie County; Laura Haase, Director of Program Operations, Children’s Services Council of Martin County; Sheryl Paul, Wee Talk Facilitator, Helping People Succeed; and Michele Watson, Founder, Watson Policy Solutions, Interim CEO, Florida Children’s Council. Our thanks to Shonda Knight, Chair, Whole Child Leon and Executive Director, Community & Media Relations, Leon County Sheriff's Office for facilitating this insightful session.

We will also feature a preview of No Small Matter thanks to our partnership with the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign.
