This course PUR: 601 covers the book P5: The Five Secrets to Successful Grant and Bid Proposals. The book is an easy read for the novice proposal writers who are interested in learning more about the point of view needed to win proposals. This book provides a generalist view of proposal writing from two of seasoned professionals with over 50 years of experience (Dr. Derrick Drakeford and Dr. Angela Hicks).

"Here we simplify the proposal writing process to provide five overarching concepts for effective grant and bid proposals. We believe true scholarship involves the ability for intellectuals to make the complex simple and the haphazard coordinated. It is in this spirit that this book uses mnemonic devices, alliteration, humor and whatever methods needed to effectivley communicate highly technical proposal writing".

A note from the instructor

"I wrote, and won, my first million-dollar grant proposal 14 years ago as a consultant for Wake County Public Schools System. Since that time our firm has raised more than 45 million in grants for clients. To become a better trainer I went back to school at UNC-Chapel Hill to obtain a P.D. in Education. My research has helped me to make courses fun, engaging, and informative. In this course you will embrace complex and often boring topics of "grant -writing" ,"bid proposals", and "technical writing." The goal of the course is to simplify these complex topics so each participant leaves with information that increases writing confidence to compete and win proposals." -Derrick Drakeford, Ph.D.
