Event description

Description

For the third year in a row the June 9 Love Ludington weekend will feature an attempt to break a world record (actually TWO this year). All we need is 1,500 folks with a bicycle and a helmet.

The Shoreline Cycling Club is partnering with the Love Ludington committee and hopes to claim the records for the longest parade of bicycles (1,186) as well as the longest line of bikes in a row not moving (1,448).

Some of the details and timing will probably be tweaked, but the basic plan is to depart Oriole Field starting at about 9:30 am on June 9th and ride a 6ish mile route on city streets, Gaylord and Tinkham primarily. To get the first record at least 1.187 riders have to ride a 2 mile "route". If we have 1,300 riders using an average of 12 feet per rider, that's 3 miles of bikes, so for everyone to ride the 2 miles we need a minimum of 5 miles. So we'll cap record one at 1,300 riders. We'll hold the reserve of riders (Lakestride runners, folks that can't ride very far) at Oriole Field. As the tail end of the line passes Oriole Field after setting record #1, we'll have that group jump on the end and touch wheels. If each bike is approximately 6 feet long and we have 1,700 bikes let's say, that's "only" 1.9 miles of road.

Riders should have a functional bicycle, helmet and be able to ride between 3-5 miles to participate. We hope to encourage families to join and we ask that parents determine whether their child will be able to ride in a single file line for 20 minutes or so.
