PUMPS & COOLING TOWERS

Overview

This course covers both the theories and practical applications of pumps and cooling towers in buildings. The course leader will assist the participants to understand the fundamental theories of water pumps, highlighting the important requirements for proper installations. In the application of the water pumps, different system configurations will be introduced. Emphasis will also be made in the area of energy saving regarding the design and operation of the pumps. This course will also cover the service maintenance of water pumps.

This course is industry designed, to provide a broad understanding of the improvement methodology, concepts, and process. The methodology is presented with case studies and examples drawn from service, business process and manufacturing applications. The integration of maintenance is also addressed. With a heavy practice orientation, as much as a third of your time will be spent working through interactive practical exercises and assessments.

Benefits of the Workshop :

On successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:-

  • Understand the benefits and implications of pump and Cooling Towers engineering problem-solving program, and relate the concepts to the overall business mission and objectives

  • Think about his/her organization as a collection of processes, with inputs that determine the output

  • Recognize the organizational factors that are the necessary groundwork for a successful engineering problem-solving program.

  • Integrate the engineering problem-solving program effort with other process improvement initiatives.

  • Learn the various types of centrifugal pumps and Cooling Towers, their functions and terminologies used;

  • Understand the design methodologies for centrifugal pumps and Cooling Towers;

  • Understand the various maintenance methods for centrifugal pumps and Cooling Towers; and

  • Understand the application of centrifugal pumps and Cooling Towers in various industries

DAY 1 - PUMPS

Pumps are found in all industries and come in all shapes and sizes. Decision makers operating in areas such as water treatment, minerals processing, oil and gas, utilities, metals processing, food and beverage and many more employ billions of dollars worth of pumping equipment to help achieve their objectives. To ensure that you are achieving maximum performance from your pumping equipment, it is essential that you know the fundamentals. “Pump Fundamentals” is an intensive and practical two day seminar which focuses on the common types of pumps and how to select, install, troubleshoot and maintain them.

MODULES :

  • Understanding Pumps

  • Net Positive Suction Head and Specific Speed in Pumps

  • Pump and System Characteristic Curves

  • The various types of pump curves for the various types of pumps

  • Variable Speed Systems for Pumps

  • Affinity Laws in Pumps

DAY 2 - COOLING TOWERS

Cooling towers are a major component in commercial and institutional facility comfort and process cooling systems. They are expected to operate efficiently and reliably, even though they are installed in an outdoor environment that subjects them to temperature extremes. In spite of their impact on facilities, cooling towers are among the most neglected equipment in many facilities. Maintenance and engineering managers might understand a cooling tower's role, but they might not fully realize the importance of keeping them operating at peak performance levels.

MODULES :

  • Cooling Tower Fundamentals

  • Cooling Tower Performance

  • Cooling Tower Water Treatment

  • Cooling Tower Types

  • Cooling Tower Maintenance
