About this event

Welcome to gastrochurch. We do intentional conversations about spiritual things over really good food. We set a table and invite people from any background, culture, worldview, and identity. It's kind of a mashup between a dinner party and a small group, only with people you might otherwise never meet.

Here's how it works: Our dining experiences are crafted to encourage engagement among the participants, so come ready to make new friends. Guests will sit in tables of six and receive three conversation prompts throughout the evening.

After the scorching days of summer, we are ready to celebrate fall. Join us in the pumpkin patch for a seasonal, farm-to-table menu cooked by Houston's one-and-only Monica Pope. Guests will enjoy a menu curated to highlight Texas' autumnal harvest, a selection of wines from a local winery, flowers from a local grower, and a chance to delve into Monica's food philosophy.

About Monica: Dubbed the "Alice Waters of the Third Coast," Texas-reared chef Monica Pope has been revolutionizing Houston's culinary scene since she debuted her first restaurant in 1992. As a high school student, she dreamed of “opening a restaurant and changing the way Houston eats.” Pope shares her passion for connecting local farmers and us, the co-producers, by hosting interactive cooking classes and Pop Ups in a Field or any beautiful place. Pope has enjoyed national recognition in the form of a James Beard Award nomination and a spot competing on the 2010 second season of Top Chef Masters on Bravo. She is still the only female Texas chef to be named a Top Ten Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine thanks to her food philosophy, "eat where your food lives".
