Hurricane Maria caused over $125 billion of dollars in damages to Puerto Rico and left 3.4 million residents without electric power, potable water, and telecommunications. Recovery is estimated to take years.

​​Puerto​ ​Rican​ ​Diaspora​ ​Summit​ ​-​ ​Washington,​ ​D.C.​ ​is​ ​a two-day​ ​conference​ ​that​ ​will provide​ ​a​ ​space​ ​for​ ​the​ ​discussion​ ​of​ ​policy​ ​issues​ ​and​ ​the​ ​articulation​ ​of​ ​community responses​ ​​from​ ​the​ ​perspective​ ​of Puerto​ ​Ricans​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Washington,​ ​D.C.​ ​area​ ​and​ ​other​ ​stakeholders.

The Understanding the Puerto Rican Debt panel will explain and illustrate the magnitude of the crisis, the aggravating economic factors and the implications of the unsurmountable debt acquired by Puerto Rico. Join us and learn how you can be a part of the solution.

The Good Governance, Accountability and Transparency panel will explore what mechanisms are in place or needed to enhance good governance practices, and to increase accountability and transparency in Puerto Rico.

Our Policy Update and Reconstruction Efforts panel will discuss how the existing congressional measures address Puerto Rico’s reality, what additional needs and issues remain, and what should be done to ensure that Puerto Rico’s recovery efforts best serve the interests of its residents.

The Economic Development panel will explore the types of programs and funding opportunities that exist under the federal government that Puerto Rico can use to support and scale local projects aimed at boosting the island’s economic development post-hurricane Maria and beyond.
