Public Talk: Exploring the Invisible Universe with the SKA Observatory

The SKA telescopes, being built in Western Australia and South Africa, will soon be among some of the world's most capable radio astronomy instruments, revolutionising our understanding of the Universe. From uncovering the Cosmic Dawn, when the first stars and galaxies formed, to testing Einstein’s theory of gravity, the SKA Observatory will explore the cosmos through its most basic ingredient: gas. Gas forms stars and shapes galactic “weather.” It also links galaxies through a complex network of gaseous filaments - like an enormous cosmic spider web.

In this talk Prof Naomi McClure-Griffiths will take us on a tour of the Universe, showing how the SKA telescopes will transform our understanding of the cosmos by revealing its gas.
