Event Details

Had enough cozy winter days of books and tea? Get outside and spend the afternoon at IslandWood. A knowledgeable docent will guide you through the forest and talk about our environmental education programs and sustainably designed campus. Along the way, you'll visit some of our field structures, perhaps warming up in a tree house or crossing a suspension bridge almost 200 feet long.

Adults and high school students are invited to register for an informational three-hour walk on our beautiful 255 acres during a scheduled site tour.

The walk will include an opportunity to see our bog, cattail marsh, pond, beautiful forest, and ravine. You will also learn about the various sustainable elements of the buildings as well as our educational programs.

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes. The walk is moderate (with possible mud, steep hills, and gravel). Also, you'll be asked to remove your shoes in some of the buildings, so wear ones that are easy to get on and off.
  • Wear weather-appropriate clothing; much of the tour takes place outdoors.
  • Water bottles are encouraged, but please no food on the tour.
  • We ask that no children younger than 15 years old be brought on the tour. (A small child in a carrier is ok, but please, no strollers.)
