Several public safety agencies are seeking candidates to fill public safety dispatcher vacancies.
Most positions are entry level and require little-to-no prior experience!

Public Safety Dispatching is a unique and exciting career choice, which promises both challenges and rewards for motivated individuals. Public Safety Dispatchers perform a myriad of duties for agencies in various public safety fields, including law enforcement, fire, medical, humane and civil services.
The typical duties of a public safety dispatcher can include:
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public
- Dispatch response personnel to calls for service
- Communicate with field personnel using radio and computer communications equipment
- Keep track of field response personnel, calls for service, and incidents
- Query computerized records and data bases
- Maintain resource materials
- Provide information to the public and other public safety agencies
- Communicate with difficult callers during stressful and emergency situations

The job fair will open at 10AM and conclude at 2PM. Job seekers can attend anytime during those hours.
NOTE TO JOB SEEKERS
Many public safety agencies conduct criminal background checks, truth verification examinations (lie detector tests), and psychological screenings as part of their hiring requirements. While minimum requirements can vary between different agencies, felony convictions, some misdemeanor convictions, previous drug use, or history of mental illness may severely restrict employability. Candidates are encouraged to speak with agency representatives about minimum qualifications, hiring processes and specific employment requirements.
A 501(c)(3) corporation, the San Diego Association of Public Safety Dispatchers (APSD) is an independent, non-profit association made up of fire and law enforcement communications center managers, supervisors, phone and radio dispatchers in San Diego County. APSD works in conjunction with existing law enforcement, fire/EMS associations and resources to bring the needs and concerns specific to communications to the forefront.
