Event description

Description

The City of Clearwater has a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a transformative vision for its downtown waterfront, which is beloved civic asset. To do so, planners determined early on to involve the community in every aspect of the project. The outcome – Imagine Clearwater, is a community vision for the Downtown Clearwater Waterfront.

Find out how Imagine Clearwater won the support of the community through creative outreach strategies in this program co-presented by the Sun Coast Section of APA Florida and the Public Relations Society of America.

At this presentation you will learn:

  • How the community vision that was created by the residents of Clearwater was the same vision that 76% of the voters approved by referendum when they voted to approve the portion of the plan pertaining to the changes to Coachman Park.

  • How the strong public outreach tactics the City undertook throughout the planning process was instrumental in the referendum’s ultimate passage.

  • About the challenges moving from the vision to implementation.

Michael Delk, Planning and Development Director, City of Clearwater

Gina Clayton, Assistant Planning and Development Director, City of Clearwater

Joelle Castelli, Public Communications Director, City of Clearwater
