Description

Food Sovereignty, Resiliency, and Justice in the 21st Century: Ideas and the Practices that Sustain Them

There has been a lot of talk in food and agricultural circles where terms like "food sovereignty", "resiliency", and "justice" are evoked. But what do these terms mean? And, just as importantly, how do they feel? The answer to these questions hinge, in part, on who you ask.

In a wide ranging talk that draws upon research that put him face to face with several hundred respondents, Michael Carolan will discuss the various ways in which food divides and binds us. The good news is that there is a lot of good work being done around the world to create just, resilient foodscapes. This lecture tells some of those hopeful stories, while offering lessons about how to assess and talk about the value of alternative food practices, especially those that engender empathetic food citizens.
