PUBLIC Journal is proud to release their third issue, and kick-off a series of events by throwing a launch party in San Francisco! The PUBLIC Journal team invites everyone to come out and enjoy dinner, drinks, and lively discussions about the latest in social impact design at the Autodesk Gallery.
PUBLIC Journal, Native Trails and the Autodesk Foundation will also be sponsoring a lively panel discussion on the future of product design for the social good. D-Rev CEO, Krista Donaldson, will be leading a panel discussion with current leaders from the social impact product design industry. The discussion will revolve around current efforts, challenges, and lessons to be learned for companies trying to provide products for those that need it the most. The panel will include:
Patrice Martin, Co-Lead and Creative Director of IDEO.org
Patrice’s work focuses on partnering with nonprofits, social enterprises and foundations to deliver innovative solutions to problems that affect low-income communities. She’s worked across a diverse set of challenges, including youth employment, early childhood learning, scalable solutions for water and sanitation, financial inclusion and more. She also created and stewarded HCD Connect, the online platform to build community amongst human-centered practicioners, a now vibrant website with 10,000+ users. Before founding IDEO.org, Patrice was a Design Director with IDEO and her work spanned large-scale social change in the private, public, and social sectors.
Alissa Murphy, Teaching Fellow at Stanford University's d.school
Alissa was part of the first cohort of students to ever come through the d.school, back in the days when it was still just a trailer packed with brave pioneers with visionary ideas and the audacity to try them out. Since then her product development career has taken her all over the world, including the past four years in Myanmar with Proximity Designs creating low-cost products for Burmese rural farmers. In July 2014 she returned to the Bay and is now joining the d.school as a Teaching Fellow, primarily working with the Design for Extreme Affordability team.
Denise Gershbein, Executive Creative Director at frog design inc.
Denise has specialized in innovation processes and the social impact space for the last four years, growing frog's global innovation practice and collaborating with clients bringing innovation initiatives into their own businesses. She was a co-lead and creator of frog's open source Collective Action Toolkit.
