Description

POP UP THEATER, INC. is thrilled to present the award-winning play, PTERODACTYLS, written by Nicky Silver (The Lyons), produced by Grafton Doyle and directed by Melanie Weisner (Becky Shaw). PTERODACTYLS will open on Friday, September 1 at 8pm and runs through Sunday, September 24 at The Commissary at The Culver Studios, 9336 Washington Blvd. in Culver City.

A classic dysfunctional family is the vehicle for a descent into chaos, and this viciously hilarious yet touching story addresses the classic question: "Why are we here?" PTERODACTYLS suggests that our extinction is beginning not with an asteroid or an ice age but rather with a severed connection to the ones closest to us. Nominated for various awards including a Drama Desk award for Best Play, PTERODACTYLS is an unmissable adventure by the award-winning writer of The Lyons, Nicky Silver--one the freshest new playwrights of this generation.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN, STRONG SEXUAL CONTENT AND LANGUAGE.

CRITICS SAY...

Dysfunction takes on new meaning with the Duncan Family. We laugh throughout, as we watch the family disintegrate, and finally realize the seeds of this dysfunction lie within us all. "…PTERODACTYLS struck me as the flip-side of The Skin of Our Teeth Thornton Wilder's antic celebration of mankind's ability to muddle through." —NY Times.

"There are times—not all that many, admittedly—when a critic wishes he had never used the word 'brilliant' before, so he could offer it fresh minded and glittering to something new. And different…" —NY Post.

"Clever is the word for PTERODACTYLS…clever, sharp, witty—it's a play that takes aim at the main-streamed, moneyed, conventional American family and buries it under one satiric jibe after another." —TheaterWeek.
