Event description
Dr. Cherian Verghese moderates an interesting and engaging presentation on cultivating resilience during a pandemic.

About this event

This Friends Life Care VigR® webinar will begin with a recording of Dr. Anna Zacharcenko, psychology professor at PCOM and Geropsychology Committee Chair of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, discussing the specific aspects of psychological distress related to the COVID-19 pandemic including the effects of social isolation and the fear of disease. She will discuss the idea of resilience in everyday life and how this can be incorporated into our lives today during pandemic times. She will elaborate on the elements of resilience, Dr. Seligman's positive psychology and the PERMA model of well-being. Resources, including websites and Ted talks that assist in this process will be provided.

Dr. Cherian Verghese will speak of the prevalence and symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (Clinical Depression) in seniors, how this differs from everyday blues, and when this crosses over from an understandable reaction to difficult circumstances to a medical condition that needs medication and other treatments. Treatment response to current medications will also be discussed.

Dr. Verghese is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and is a leader in the field locally and nationally. He is Medical Director of Keystone Clinical Studies and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Temple University. His company has worked on the clinical development of over 11 new medications and are actively working on novel medications to treat depression and Alzheimer's Disease.
