Event description

Description

More than ever we are in the midst of a national conversation about misogyny and sexual assault. From Hollywood to Washington D.C., in corporations and institutions across the country, each day seems to bring new revelations of a culture of harassment and abuse of women. For better and worse, the topic of misogyny has never been more public or more important.

The goal of this two-day conference is to expand awareness of this issue beyond what is social and political, and to explore the personal and internal experience of persevering in the face of misogyny. Through an interdisciplinary and intersectional lens, the theme “Psychic Survival in the face of Misogyny: A dialectic between the internal and external glass ceiling” will be related to both current events and psychological and psychoanalytic themes.

For every woman who has enough power to publicly share her story, there are multitudes of women whose circumstances make this act impossible. Racial, financial, and other social inequities are also barriers to empowerment and having one’s voice heard.

We invite all women, men, activists, students, mental health professionals, social scientists, and everyone who wants to have a voice in this conversation to be part of this very important and timely conference and hear from the first female president of the IPA Virginia Ungar!

Schedule

Friday: 6:30pm-9pm cocktails and panel discussion lead by Virgina Ungar and Dana Calvo

Saturday: 9am-4pm lectures by Virgina Ungar, Adrienne Harris, and Stephen Friedman with breakout discussions and coffee and a lunch included.
