Event description
Our favorite esotericist, JW Dotson, MD returns for a closer look at incense and its use across time and cultures in an online lecture.

About this event

What is it about incense that leads to reverie and launches a perceptual unframing, a breach in rationality that opens a smoky doorway to the imaginal realm?

In this online class, J.W. Dotson, MD explores the use of incense in history, discussing divination spells from Graeco-Roman magical papyri, and the persistence of similar visionary spells in Medieval European grimoire magic and the “darb al mandal” a 19th century Egyptian jinn summoning ritual.

The practice of mirror or crystal gazing resurfaced as a central method of developing psychic faculties for European and American occultists in the 19th and early 20th century, and incense was recommended to deepen the experience, with various groups selling versions of “Temple Incense” to boost clairvoyance and maintain a mystical atmosphere.

Dotson will review “secret” incense formulas for those who wish to delve further into these otherworldly fragrances.

This is an online class. The Zoom link will be sent by email 24 hours before the class.

Please note that registration ends one hour before the start of the event.
