Guest speakers for August-September:

August 8th  Robert Weitzel, MD

Dr. Weitzel will be speaking as the new director of the Beyond Institute, a site where appropriately screened psychotherapy patients and "healthy normals" can go to experience a Journey to "Beyond" - safely, legally, and in the United States. Both a psychodynamically and biologically trained psychiatrist, he has been treating much medication management as a process of withdrawing many patients from far too many drugs, especially (often traumatized) people who have been on years of benzodiazepines, antidepressants, stimulants, mood stabilizers, and/or anti-psychotics.Although medications have their uses, he believes far too many psychiatrists have no knowledge or training in trauma, self-psychology, narcissism theory, or even psychotherapy, and throw a new drug at every symptom. "People are more than their neurotransmitters, and trauma is not well-treated by the drugs that pharmaceutical companies are pushing."Although board-certified in general psychiatry, Dr. Weitzel left standard medical practice and now works with plant medicine, helping guide clients to the state of Beyond with entheogens. He enjoys working with people who want a positive psychology centered wellness program, and those interested in Buddhist principles of exploring the most basic problems of human living, to find liberation. He is strong advocate of the use of entheogens as potent and curative medicines, using methods first discovered by indigenous peoples and now under investigation by MAPS and major medical institutions.  Presentation topic: "My Journey From Psychiatrist to Shaman"

August 22nd  Daniel ‘Sitaram Das’ Shankin has dedicated his life to the cultivation of clarity, resilience, and heart. With the recognition that our true nature is vast and generous, wise, he strives to serve his clients in finding their own innate goodness and boundless strength. He currently offers leadership coaching with a heavy emphasis on mindfulness and somatics, and runs Mt. Tam Psychedelic Integration, an organization that supports individuals doing exploration for healing and spiritual growth in Marin County. You can visit him at

Presenation topic: " Get your set together - meditative tools to prepare for a successful journey. "

August 29th  Kerry Moran, M.A., LPC is a psychotherapist and writer who brings years of experience in depth psychology to theintegration of ayahuasca. Her approach is both spiritual and practical, working to ground thewisdom of ayahuasca in daily life. She lives in the Sacred Valley of Peru, where she workswith and writes about the integration process. See more at

Presentation topic:  “Beauty and Terror: Inside the Ayahuasca Experience"

Ritually used for millennia by the indigenous peoples of the Amazon, ayahuasca is a provocative agent of psychological change, served up in liquid form. Its use is spreading rapidly around the globe, as modern-day people discover the transformative potential of this visionary plant brew. This presentation explores what clinicians need to know in order to work with clients drinking ayahuasca, whether in centers abroad or in underground ceremonies at home. What draws people to ayahuasca, despite its difficulties, and what can they expect? What are the contraindications and dangers? How to work with common themes or patterns likely to emerge? We look at specific issues like visions, recovered memories, and a particular state of overwhelm that I’m semi-facetiously calling “Post-Ceremony Stress Disorder.”

September 5th Lisa DeBenedittis, PhD is a licensed psychoanalyst in New York State, and a Jungian Analyst certified by the International Association of Analytical Psychology. She trained at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in New York, where she is currently Director of Training. She has a private practice in Manhattan and on Long Island. Lisa is very interested in the ways in which people map and explore consciousness and the inner life, as individualizing work.   Presentation topic:  “Integration: Framing Psychedelic Experience as Individuation Work”

September 19th Nico Grundmann, MD MBA Dr. Nico Grundmann is the Medical Director of Ember Health, a practice that provides infusions of ketamine in a safe, monitored environment to people seeking relief from depression. Nico co-founded Ember Health as a way to help individuals take control of their lives and realize their full potential. He and his team are driven by an ambition to shape the standard of care for ketamine therapy reflective of these values. At the core of their care model is partnership with people’s existing mental healthcare providers.Nico pursued his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Kings County Hospital / SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY, and received his Medical Degrees and Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and family.

Presentation talk:

Ketamine has emerged in the last decade as a novel, highly efficacious, and currently available treatment for depression and mood disorders. This talk will highlight ketamine infusions therapy, review the current APA and FDA consensus guidelines on ketamine for mood disorders, and include excerpts from patients who have undergone this treatment. While ketamine is a powerful and at times life-saving tool for mental healthcare practitioners, ensuring safe, effective treatment routes for patients is not as straightforward as writing a prescription. This talk will describe the options available to practitioners looking to help their patients access this treatment, and will cover what is known about the combinations of ketamine and psychotherapy to improve long-term patient outcomes and wellbeing.

September 26th CE credits provided  by Jennifer Allen, LMFT, ATR-BC is a licensed therapist, board certified art therapist, author, and is certified in psychedelic assisted therapy and ketamine assisted therapy. She has led art process and grief ritual workshops at Esalen and other venues and has presented on a range of subjects, most recently psychedelic medicine. Her personal path includes earth-based traditions, Shamanic practices and creativity. This path supports her passion for new—old ways of knowing that hold hope for humanity on this planet. Her pursuit of psychedelic assisted therapy brings together her personal and professional interests and capacities for an effective and efficient mode of healing and growth. While she intends to eventually participate in Expanded Access as a therapist treating PTSD with MDMA at an approved clinic, she currently offers a harm-reduction, growth-promoting model of preparation and integration of psychedelic and non-ordinary state experiences, as well as the support of spiritual emergence.Using the familiar non-ordinary vehicle of creativity to prepare one for a psychedelic experience can help orient them to their inner process and navigate the unknown, while it also serves to integrate experiences that are often beyond words. Jennifer uses her Art for Access process focusing on felt sense, art process, shamanic drumming, writing, and sharing to help people “grow corn” with their experience, versus having an interesting adventure that ends with the experience. Jennifer believes that when we respect the medicines by orienting to them ahead, use them intentionally and fully integrate their messages, we are in “right relationship” with them as allies and they can continue to teach us, well after the medicine experience.Currently, Jennifer offers monthly Integration groups. For more information go to  To obtain CE credits for the webinar, please contact Jennifer directly at  and submit additional payment $10 via paypal, after you registered fot the event.  Presenation topic: "Growing corn" with psychedelic experience.
