Event description

Description

Stakeholder engagement - Addressing Environmental Challenges through Dialogue

Trainers: Gary Dunning and Ona Ferguson

This module will introduce students to using stakeholder engagement processes as a tool to help address (and solve) complex environmental challenges. Particular emphasis and examples will be drawn from multi-stakeholder dialogue (MSD) processes such as The Forests Dialogue. Students will first learn about the conceptual basics of stakeholder engagement: why, how, when and what form of engagement to use. They will then progress on to learning the practical steps of how to design, govern, fund, manage, evaluate and end a successful MSD process. The module will also highlight how to prepare for common challenges like trust building, conflict resolution, reaching consensus, collaborative action and most importantly, how to help groups move from talking to real action. The session will be taught via presentations, cases, small group work and large format discussions.
