Description

Join us to take a tour of the new KEXP building, a public radio station based in Seattle, Washington, that specializes in alternative and indie rock designed by SkB Architects, a Seattle-based design firm.

Aside from coffee and computers, Seattle is known for its devotion to music. KEXP has been the go-to source for music lovers for more than 40 years. Launched in 1972 at the University of Washington, KEXP bounced around different campuses until 2011 when KEXP announced it would be moving to a new location at the northwest corner of the campus, renovating the existing Northwest Rooms.

KEXP chose SkB Architects for the final design. Aiming to boost community engagement, the new building includes a lobby and gathering space with more than 4,500 square feet for performances and events, a live room for in-studio performances that allows 50-75 music lovers to watch their favorite bands, open office workstations for staff, and the first coffee retail concept for Italian espresso machine maker La Marzocco. “The main goal, aside from more space, was to create a place that gave the community more opportunities to engage with KEXP on different levels,” says Kyle Gaffney, founding partner and lead designer at SkB Architects, who will be present at this event!

We are taking donations for YouthCare, who builds confidence and self-sufficiency for homeless youth by providing a continuum of care that includes outreach, basic services, emergency shelter, housing, counseling, education, and employment training. We are taking donations of socks, toiletries, first aid kits, as well as coats and jackets.
