The London 2012 Olympic Games: The PR Journey from Bidding to Implementation

In July 2012, London played host to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXXth Olympiad.
Since 2006, Robert Wright has been part of the London 2012 Development Group, working alongside both Visit Britain and London & Partners, the official tourism organizations for the United Kingdom and London, to bring the Games to London and maximize their impact on the UK capital.
In this presentation, Robert takes us on a journey from the bidding stage through implementation, and talks about how PR helped deal with some of the challenges surrounding this major event.
About the Speaker:
After leaving University with a degree in political journalism, Robert spent a year travelling around Europe working within the hospitality industry.
On returning home to the UK, he initially took his writing and communications skills to the world of hotels, where he held a number of marketing and communications roles within organizations such as Forte, Granada and Groupe Elior before founding Davies Tanner in 1996.
Davies Tanner is now the UK’s leading public relations agency for the travel and tourism industry, with offices in London, Barcelona and now, Tampa. A PR Week Top 150 Agency, Davies Tanner works with some of the most successful and recognizable brands in travel and tourism, including hotels, conference centers, convention and visitor bureaus, major venues, event management companies, and industry associations and destinations in the UK, Europe and the US.
Davies Tanner's sister agency, Electric Suitcase, provides specialist digital communications for clients, including video content, blogs, online advertising, web copy, social media and social networks.
Robert is a regular speaker on public relations and communications, is an adviser to several industry associations, Chair of the PRCA Travel & Tourism Group and London Future Forum, and a member of the Event 2012 Development Group, which advises on communications issues surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games.
He divides his time between his homes in London and St. Pete Beach.

The Citrus Club is located on the 18th floor of the BB&T Bank Building, at the corner of Orange Avenue and Jackson Street in downtown Orlando. Parking is available in the Jackson Street parking lot and the Lincoln garage on Ornage Avenue. Meter parking is also available on the adjacent streets. Unfortunately, we do not validate parking.
