PRS Level 2 Water Quality Monitoring Volunteer Training
Overview
In April 2025, the Port Royal Sound Foundation launched our state-approved Level 2 water quality monitoring program to monitor locations across the watershed with digital meters, and have that data be considered credible for decision-making by the state. Today, we have a network of 50+ volunteers monitoring 25 sites twice monthly. We are expanding the volunteer network to have more field investigators available to monitor more remote 'field sites'. Once trained, volunteers will be able to sign up for monitoring 'routes' on alternating Mondays and Tuesdays to collect field data and take samples that will be analyzed by our partners at the USCB laboratory.
Volunteers will need to be able to travel in their own vehicle on their own time on Mondays and/ or Tuesday mornings. On average, a monitoring 'route' will take 3-4 hours, which includes travel time.
If you are interested in volunteering for this exciting new program, register for one of the two training sessions we are holding in October and November. The training is free and will take four (4) hours, and you'll be certified for a year.
