Provision for the Vision Seminar

This seminar focuses on helping participants articulate their vision for their organizations and programs. The mantra for the seminar is “If you articulate your vision the provision will come!” Participants are provided with methods, tools and templates for developing mission statements, vision statements and the rationale for their organization’s programs and projects. Participants will engage in exercises that defines a societal challenge and issues associated with the challenge. Participants will prioritize the issues and then develop programing to alleviate or eliminate the challenge and issues. Additionally, participants are provided with an overview of proposal writing fundamentals for obtaining grants, including writing an Introduction, Agency Description, Needs Statement, and Program Description with Goals, Objectives, Activities, Timelines and Evaluation for Outcomes, preparing a Program Budget will also be covered.

Key Learning Outcomes/Takeaways:

  1. Understanding the difference between a mission statement and a vision statement.

  2. Completion of an exercise to understand the voice of the target population you are serving.

  3. Understand how to develop requirements from the voice of the target population you are serving.

  4. Completion of an exercise that prioritizes requirement.

  5. Develop solutions in terms of programs that fulfills the requirements.

  6. Expand the knowledge needed to prepare a winning grant proposal.

The workshop will be presented by Lavonda Bryant. Lavonda s a business professional working in the telecommunication field for over 18 years. She is currently a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt for AT&T Global Supply Chain, serving in this role since May 2010. She is responsible for mentoring Black and Green Belts, providing statistical analysis for very large data sets, developing project portfolios, project managing cross-functional improvement efforts throughout the organization resulting in financial benefits in the tens of millions annually.

Lavonda serves on the board of Outreach to Africa, a nonprofit organization in Irvine with operations in Uganda as the treasurer and secretary. She has also written grants for the organization resulting in over $1.6M since 2013. She serves on the External Advisory Council for the Physical Therapy Department at Chapman University.
