Course Objectives
As a result of this activity, the attendee should be able to:
- Ask the correct questions in clinic to screen for small fiber neuropathy in their presenting patients, and understand how to proceed with additional workup and treatment.
- Recognize the common presenting symptoms and typical functional capacity of ME/CFS patients in a clinical setting.
- Appreciate the selection bias of privilege or resources in the presentation of patients with ME/CFS to clinical practice.
- Obtain a history and biomarkers of post-exertional malaise symptoms from a patient with ME/CFS or FM, and use it to distinguish the illness from depression and to design an exercise prescription.
- Appreciate the potential benefits of self-management to people with ME/CFS and know how to direct them to resources for behavioral self-management of this condition.
This continuing education activity is designed to deliver cutting edge progress in the research and treatment of chronic fatigue and chronic pain to the providers who care for these complex patients. The material will be presented in an interdisciplinary format. This course is designed to attract a broad array of health-care providers including:
