Event description

Description

Protecting Your Child is a biblically-based approach to teaching children ages 6-10 about safe versus unsafe situations. Children who participate in this workshop will learn about God’s desire for them to be safe from all types of violence, maltreatment, and abuse. Participants will be taught how to identify unsafe people and situations, and they will have the opportunity to practice responding in a safe way by asking for God’s help and confiding in trusted adults. Children will learn how to identify and maintain appropriate physical, emotional, spiritual, and sexual boundaries, recognize when boundary violations are about to occur, and practice how to take action when boundaries are threatened or violated. Parents are encouraged to attend and observe the workshop so that they can continue to reinforce the concepts at home.

The workshop will be offered on Thursday, October 5 from 5:30-7:30pm. Space is limited to 20 children. Cost per family is $20 (this includes 2 parents/guardian + 1 child). Additional children can attend for $15. This workshop will be led by Fieldstone Counselor Sarah Keene.

Sarah Keene has been mentoring and counseling children and adolescents for over ten years. Sarah earned her BA in social work and her MEd in School Counseling from Malone University, and she is a licensed social worker as well as a licensed professional school counselor. Sarah has worked as a case manager and counselor in the school setting for the past eight years, and she is currently serving as a school counselor at Lake Center Christian School in Hartville. Sarah specializes in helping young people manage stress and anxiety, and supporting children and adolescents through family changes and difficulties in school. She is passionate about helping young people reach their full potential in Christ by supporting them and their families in the midst of life’s challenges. Sarah lives in Hartville with her husband and her son.
