Protecting Children from Exploitation and Trafficking: Risk Factors, Recognition, and Response

About this Event

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s Texas Regional Office in conjunction with the Texas Governor’s Office, presents; Protecting Children from Exploitation and Trafficking: Risk Factors, Recognition, and Response.

This primary training provides an extensive overview of fundamental child exploitation and trafficking concepts and is designed for a broad audience of professionals involved in the protection of children, including law enforcement, child welfare professionals, and stakeholders.

The training will include:

• NCMEC’s resources available to assist with cases of missing, sexually exploited, and trafficked children;

• An introduction to child sex trafficking, including indicators to help identify potential victims, the appropriate response for stakeholders when they learn of victimization or possible victimization, and considerations for recovery of victims and resources available;

• Sound investigative practices, including the use of technology in proactive and reactive investigations, and lessons learned from successful and unsuccessful investigations;

• Case studies of child exploitation and trafficking, with specialized case studies on children in the care of DFPS;

• An overview of state and federal laws related to child sexual exploitation and trafficking, and common legal issues and challenges; and,

• Information about the nature and scope of child exploitation in Texas and the U.S. including child sex trafficking, online enticement, sextortion, and child sexual abuse imagery.

Free CEUs and TCOLE are offered for this course. Please be advised – CEU credit is only available to attendees who participate in every session of this two-day course. To obtain TCOLE credit, you must attend a minimum of six hours of instruction.
