Proposed reforms of high-rise safety after Grenfell: workshop for residents
Event Information
Description
Following the Homes for All Open Organising Meeting (https://www.facebook.com/events/2917310185160896/), Stuart Hodkinson (University of Leeds) & Phil Murphy (Manchester Sustainable Communities) are running a workshop for residents and housing campaigners about the Government's current consultation on its proposed reforms of regulation to high-rise residential dwellings in England following the Grenfell Tower disaster. They include mechanisms to put residents at the heart of the new system such as access to building and fire safety information they need or request, and a fast-track route to a new Building Safety Regulator if their safety concerns are not dealt with effectively by building owners or landlords. The aim of this event is to enable residents and campaigners to properly scrutinise and inform the government's proposals based on their vital lived experience. We also aim to draw together model responses that campaigners can use as the basis of their own responses to the consultation by the deadline of 31 July 2019.
The workshop is being supported by Homes for All, the Radical Housing Network, and the University of Leeds.
A buffet lunch will be provided to all those who register to attend.
