Event description

Description

This tour is open to representatives of organizations that plan to respond to the Request for Interest (RFI) for the historic Southwest Museum site and Casa de Adobe. Advance reservations are required.

This tour will take participants through the historic SWM building (1914), Braun Research Library building (1977), and Casa de Adobe (1917). The SWM building walk-through will include Caracol Tower, Torrance Tower, Sprague Auditorium, the tunnel entrance, courtyard, terrace, the lower level of the museum building (Poole Wing and office space), and exhibit spaces that became conservation labs during the Autry’s preservation project. The tour will be led by representatives of the Autry Museum of the American West, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the City of Los Angeles.

Large purses, bags, food, and drinks are not permitted on some sections of the tour. We recommend wearing sneakers or other comfortable shoes because the tour requires a significant amount of walking, including many stairs.

Parking: Free parking is available at the top of the hill at 234 Museum Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90065.

Public Transportation: Take the Metro Gold Line to the Southwest Museum Station, located near the intersection of Marmion Way and Museum Drive. Enter through the pedestrian tunnel entrance on Museum Drive.

Accessibility: At this historic site, some areas are fully accessible to wheelchair users; other areas may require assistance. Please give yourself extra time if you have mobility challenges.

Space is limited. Please let us know if you register and are no longer available to attend.
