Event Details

Come build skills for inclusive participation in UCLA’s global community! Whether you plan to study abroad in China or engage with any of the thousands in the Chinese community at UCLA, the first step to global connection may be pronouncing Chinese names accurately.



After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify Chinese names and pronounce them with greater confidence and accuracy
  • Recognize the distinct characteristics of the three most common Romanization systems of Chinese
  • Pronounce the "alphabet" and common combinations of letters from different Romanization systems


Registration begins November 3, 9 am.  Please register for a guaranteed seat. 


What should I bring?

  • your Bruin Card for efficient registration
  • a readiness to practice unfamiliar sounds out loud
  • notetaking materials (pen & paper or an electronic device)
