Description

JOIN US OCT 18TH AND 19TH, 2019!

Two of Pennsylvania’s premier organizations providing information for supporting students with diverse needs have joined forces to present an outstanding opportunity for education professionals, administrators, parents, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, tutors, pre-service teachers, and advocates.

The Pennsylvania Council for Exceptional Children (PACEC) is a professional association of educators dedicated to advancing the success of children with exceptionalities. We accomplish our mission through advocacy, standards, and professional development. Friday will feature strands such as Trauma Informed Practices, Legal Issues in Special Education, Youth Mental Health, High Leverage Practices in Higher Education, and many more exciting topics.

The International Dyslexia Association, Pennsylvania Branch (PBIDA) is a non-profit organization that champions individuals with dyslexia and all students learning to read. Featured topics include Reading and Resiliency, Executive Functioning and Reading Comprehension, and Impactful Practices for Teaching Reading.

The PACEC conference on Friday leads into the PBIDA conference on Saturday. Friday night’s combined awards dinner will feature Steve Dykstra, Ph.D., Saturday morning, Kelly Cartwright, Ph.D., Author and Professor at Christopher Newport University, will speak on the topic of Executive Skills to Support Reading Comprehension. Both speakers will have workshop sessions Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon will feature a plenary session with Dean Bragonier, founder of NoticeAbility Inc., who will speak on the challenges and gifts of dyslexia. Additional workshops will also be presented in the morning and afternoon.

Join us on Friday night for a special President's Reception including dinner and awards ceremony. Our featured speaker Steve Dykstra, Ph.D. will present on Reading and Trauma – How Do They Fit Together? With recent and important focus on trauma and social-emotional learning, where do reading and language fit? Right in the middle of everything, where they have always been. Learn why our response to trauma and our efforts to improve social-emotional learning must incorporate language and literacy, or we’ll always come up short.

For the best professional development opportunity, plan to attend both days! For those with limited time, there are opportunities to attend components of both conferences. Discounts are available for early registration.

Discounted Room Rate $125/night and discounted parking rate of $5/day.
