Promoting Internet Safety Globally: Connecting Generations
Monday, 14 May 2012 at 14:00 - Wednesday, 16 May 2012 at 17:00 (CEST)
In May 2012, the Insafe network will celebrate its achievements with its first international conference entitled “Connecting Generations", hence the theme of Safer Internet Day 2012 to encompass multiple strategic actions.
"Connection Generations" is synonymous with the breadth and reach of the internet, which connects people of all ages and all walks of life into a web of discovery and learning, although also of potential risks and dangers for the unwary. The internet is a place where often children and adults find themselves on an equal footing, where children can teach adults many things related to adults, but where they depend on the wisdom and life experience of their seniors to navigate through the social challenges inherent to the virtual world.
INSAFE’s first international conference will connect generations and fields of expertise. It will bring together researchers and awareness raisers, educational professionals and industry, decision makers and young people to analyse issues related to life in the online world. It will open a platform to highlight trends emerging in the virtual arena, and showcase the good practice that is being implemented across Europe to improve the safety and well-being of users. It will provide a forum to debate and investigate new challenges and solutions, to take stock of the current situation and open lines of action for the road ahead.

Who Should Attend?
Representatives of projects within the Safer Internet Programme, EU kids Online as well as other EU relevant projects will be invited to participate. However, the conference will be open internationally to practitioners, academics and social pioneers involved in safer internet issues. In addition, the organizers aim to invite representatives from Asia and Africa, as well as youth panels from both Europe and Africa, thus extending the scope of Safer internet beyond Europe. Cyprus is well suited for this as both geographically and politically finds itself at the cross roads of continents.
