Description

Join the National Civic League to learn how communities are engaging residents where they live, using unique and entertaining approaches.

Join us on Wednesday, November 13th @ 11:00 am MT (10:00 am PT, 12:00 pm CT, 1:00 pm ET)

Webinar Description:

This webinar will highlight three community events that are giving residents entertaining opportunities for engaging with the city. Registrants will hear about events in Denver, CO, Decatur, GA and Mission, TX.

Kaylie Showers, Staff Assistant at the City of Denver's Agency for Human Rights and Community Partnerships will speak about Denver Days. Mayor Michael Hancock started Denver Days six years ago as a way to encourage neighbors to get to know one another. Denver Days is a program held during the first week of August that encourages neighbors to get to know their fellow neighbors by hosting block parties, picnics, and service projects with the focus on small, organic gatherings.

Scott Doyon, Principal Storyteller at PlaceMakers in Atlanta, GA will discuss Decatur's Porchfest. Porchfest, originally started in Ithaca, New York, is a grassroots community music festival where front porches become stages, yards become venues, and radical generosity and good will rule the day. The Oakhurst neighborhood, in Decatur, Georgia, launched its own Porchfest in October, 2015 and continues to host the event yearly.

Robert Rodriguez, Police Officer in Mission, TX will talk about the community's National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It takes place across thousands of communities from all fifty states, including in Mission, TX.
