Each year The Cardinal Nest invites high school students and community leaders from East Cleveland and surrounding areas to attend the Youth Empowerment Weekend. This year’s theme is “Promise U: Shaping your Quintessential Self.” The purpose of the weekend is to provide high school students living in or around East Cleveland, Ohio with the tools necessary to cultivate their most valuable abilities and skills so that they can become positive change agents in the community.

The goals of the weekend are:

  • To inspire students to work together to reach their personal, professional and academic goals.
  • To provide students will skills needed to accomplish tasks and deal with challenges.
  • To develop a network of student leaders to catalyze positive behaviors in the community.
  • To provide a healthy and engaging learning environment for students and community leaders.

Youth Empowerment Conference - Friday, May 19, 2017 – 10AM to 2PM

The youth empowerment conference will feature several dynamic guest speakers and activities. Attendees will include local high school students and community members.

Community Forum - Saturday, May 20, 2017 – 2PM to 5PM

This interactive event will be a platform for community members to discuss the needs of urban youth. Both students and adults will engage in dialog during this event.

Professional Networking Event - Saturday, May 20, 2017 – 6PM to 10PM

Professionals in the area will connect with one another while learning more about the Cardinal Nest and opportunities to mentor high school students during this event.

Community Day - Sunday, May 21, 2017 – 2PM to 6PM

Community day will consist of various events in the park including food, activities, music, and other exciting activities. This year, The Cardinal Nest will be making a scholarship presentation to a deserving high school student. This event will also serve as a school supply drive for the East Cleveland City School District.
