About the Training:

Prolonged Grief Disorder is one of the newest diagnoses in the DSM 5. But what is it? Join psychologist and Prolonged Grief Disorder specialist, Dr. Meredith Charney, as she reviews what the Prolonged Grief Disorder is (and isn't), how to assess for Prolonged Grief Disorder, differential diagnosis, and the Healing Milestones of Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy.

This training is worth six (6) contact hours. Application for pre-approval has been filed with the Maine Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the diagnostic criteria for Prolonged Grief Disorder
  • Discuss the Healing Milestones of Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy

About the presenter:

Meredith E. Charney is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing at Maine Medical Center/MaineHealth in Portland, Maine and Psychology Specialists of Maine in Brunswick, Maine. A graduate of Boston University, Dr. Charney spent many years in Massachusetts providing evidence-based clinical care to individuals with anxiety, trauma, and grief. She also carried a number of leadership roles, as well as participated in numerous research studies. She has extensive experience with veterans, including work at the Washington DC VA Medical Center, the VA Boston Healthcare System, and Massachusetts General Hospital in the Home Base and Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders programs. Her current work focuses on providing individual therapy to adult patients using evidence-based psychotherapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), complicated grief therapy (CGT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) as well as using acceptance and mindfulness-based skills.
